Trial Information

DMPA XT is a Phase 3 clinical trial intended to determine if the contraceptive injection containing depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) that is currently given every 3 months is as effective and safe if given every 6 months under the skin instead of into the muscle (referred to as 6-month DMPA SC). The study is now recruiting participants at Chalmers Sexual Health Centre, Edinburgh. If you're interested in participating, submit the brief pre-screening questionnaire below.

Trial Basics

The following details are not exhaustive. For more information, view the participant information sheet or contact Chalmers Centre.

What will happen if I take part in this study?

If you participate in this study, you will receive two injections of 6-month DMPA SC under the skin of your abdomen or thigh from the study nurse: the first one on the day of enrolment, and the second one 6 months later. You will be in the study for approximately 13 months. During the study we will ask you to return to the clinic for several different kinds of visits.

Where does the trial take place?

All assessments and follow-up visits will take place at Chalmers Sexual Health Centre in Edinburgh.

Address:

How much time would I have to commit?

If you participate in the study, it will last about one year from the first visit. You would complete a screening visit, enrolment visit, and 4 scheduled clinic follow-up visits at Months 3, 6, 9, and 12. Additional visits for pregnancy testing may be required.
