It is an effective resource for communicating the science, methods, and operations of a clinical trial, to allow for efficient review by peers and oversight bodies, to facilitate reporting of information into ClinicalTrials.gov, and to guide replication of studies. Use of the template will also help ensure adherence to the International Conference on Harmonisation (ICH) E6 Good Clinical Practice guidelines. Though not required, the template can be especially helpful for investigators less familiar with the information and level of detail expected in a clinical protocol.

Tox21

This database pools federal resources and expertise from EPA, National Institutes of Environmental Health Sciences/National Toxicology Program, National Institutes of Health, National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences and the Food and Drug Administration to use robotics technology to screen thousands of chemicals for potential toxicity, using screening data to predict the potential toxicity of chemicals and developing a cost-effective approach for prioritizing the thousands of chemicals that need toxicity testing.

ToxCast

ToxCast is a multi-year effort launched in 2007 that uses automated chemical screening technologies (known as "high-throughput screening assays") to expose living cells or isolated proteins to chemicals. The cells or proteins are then screened for changes in biological activity that may suggest potential toxic effects and eventually potential adverse health effects. These innovative methods have the potential to limit the number of required laboratory animal-based toxicity tests while quickly and efficiently screening large numbers of chemicals.
